Emailing with Parents

In one of my English 10 classes, I have a student with a 504 Plan. He struggles, and sometimes I’m worried that he isn’t grasping concepts, despite me working one-on-one with him during class time as much as I can.

I wanted this student’s mother to be in the know about how he was doing in my class. I also wanted to introduce myself and make myself an available resource to her if she needed. It was important for me to play an active role in his learning.

I initiated a conversation, via email, with this student’s mother. This is just one of the ways that I’ve taken a leadership role in my classroom and made sure to communicate effectively with parents.

Now this student’s mother has been informed of upcoming assignments and tests, and hopefully her and I can work together to strengthen his performance in class!
