After reading “House on Mango Street,” the first section in the book, this is a great way to help students visualize the Mango Street house and compare/contrast it to their own.
One of the main themes of House on Mango Street is the idea of a house vs. a home–and how one may live in a physical house, but it might not feel like a home.
This activity is fun, and also challenges students to draw out examples/evidence from the text to go along with their pictures! The kids really enjoyed coloring, and some really got creative with their pictures!
I had them share in small groups, and four even presented in front of the entire class! [Download here!]
