Reading in small groups is beneficial to both the students and me. In this specific class, the students and I took turns reading The Outsiders–‘popcorn reading’–each taking a page. This gave me the opportunity to model, but also allowed the students to follow along and be engaged.

I found myself the most connected with students when I was able to work one-on-one in a close setting. Being able to tutor in this fashion helped the students to gain a deeper understanding, and taught me how to accommodate for different levels of student learning.
