Making connections while reading is hard! That’s why I created this resource to help not only my struggling readers in Book Club, but for for any struggling reader or young reader (fifth grade through eighth grade). This simple, yet deeper-thinking worksheet helps students create text-to-self connections while reading.
Above is a preview of the worksheet, which can be downloaded here: Connecting to Novel Characters. The worksheet asks students to analyze a book they’re reading and think about the main characters–who are they, what are they like, how is the student similar or different.
Through finding similarities and differences between the characters and the student, the student can form text-to-self connections, which is an essential reading strategy!
