Poetry Workshop

To connect on a deeper, more personal level to Tuesdays with Morrie, I had my students write poems about their ‘Morries’, the influential people in their lives.

Who Is My Morrie? The poetry wall.To start, I introduced the idea of influential people, brainstormed with the students, and then explained the template and assignment. For that complete lesson, click here.

As a follow-up to the original assignment, I gave my students edited poems and had them revise in class. It was a poetry workshop that gave students in-class time to ask me questions, work on a guided revision process, and have fun printing, decorating, and hanging their poems!

Here are some pictures of the workshop in action! I am working one-on-one with students. They are cutting and gluing their poems to poster boards we hung on the wall. And they are having fun! Last is a picture of our classroom wall when everything was done!
