A few weeks ago, I had the privilege of speaking to renown producer and DJ, Justin Blau, known by his stage name, 3LAU. (I’ll let you in on a little secret, I’m a huge EDM fan). But regardless of whether you’ve heard his remixes, or are into the genre at all, the story of his career is an amazing one, because he believes in the power of education.
In our interview, Blau said this:
“Education has always been my focus. I wanted to benefit the world in a way that nothing else could—education is that thing.”
Blau partnered with Pencils of Promise, a non-profit, for-purpose organization that builds schools, trains teachers, and funds scholarships, with special focus on third world countries.
Since the partnership began, three years ago, he has raised hundreds of thousands and built one school in Guatemala, which he was able to visit. He shares that experience in this YouTube clip:
What I love about Blau’s story, [click HERE to read the full interview] is how he believed in the power and purpose of education.
He is a music person, and he used music to make a change and a difference in thousands of lives. He knew that education is one of the most important things, and he used his passion to promote that. To me, that’s incredible.
“Education is everything,” he says, “Education is a huge part of my life and an educated community is a successful community. That’s why this is so important to me.”
Fans can now purchase bracelets from Electric Family, and all proceeds will directly benefit Pencils of Promise!
“Together we are proving the power of dance music knows no bounds,” says Blau.
