The Daily Apple Dog Blog

Hi there! ๐Ÿพ This is Styles & Luka (aka: the class pets) reporting live from our couch as we write the first entry on our official Dog Blog! We’re headed on a cross-country road trip soon with our humans: our mom (aka: your pretty cool teacher), our dad (aka: Mr. James), and our human-brother (aka: Austin) and we wanted to share with you all of our exciting adventures. . . so we made a page to share those things, send you some special notes, and challenge you to join along!

  • WHAT IS THE DOG BLOG?
This is our little place to share what we’ve been up to! And it’s also a place where you’ll find our activities and challenges for YOU. If you complete all the challenges, you’ll be getting a super special gift from our mom (aka: Miss Marisa). So, if I were you, I’d join in the fun!
  • WHAT DO I DO & HOW DO I GET A PRIZE?
Each day we’ll share a question for you to answer. You’ll write it on your “Dog Blog Sheet” that our mom (aka Miss Marisa) gave you on the last day of school. If you didn’t get a sheet because you weren’t there or if your dog ate it (ha ha), Miss Marisa also put it on the app! You can get a prize if you answer all of the questions. Write your work AND your answer on your “Dog Blog Recording Sheet.” When you come back to school after the break, you’ll turn this in!

PS: You can always see more of our pupdates on our Instagram page!

STYLES + LUKA’S PUPDATES:

Jan. 5 – Finally Home!

Hi friends! It’s Styles. Sorry that I’m just now writing our blog. We drove through the night and I actually got kind of sick (I think I got car sick ๐Ÿฅบ). Anyways, now we are home!

Right before we came home, we climbed some super cool rocks (see our video)!

Here’s our LAST box. . . draw a picture of what you’re most excited about coming back to school!

See you soon!

Jan. 4 – Pit Stop!

We just made a pit stop at this super cool place in Arizona. Mom and dad wanted to see the giant “Meteor Crater” which is apparently this giant hole in the ground caused by a falling meteor from thousands of years ago. We couldn’t actually go see the meteor BUT we did get to walk around cool red rocks!

We also got to watch our family walk along the edge of the crater from where we were sitting in the front seats of the camper! (See the video).

Here’s today’s math question: Mom learned that the meteor fell from the sky at a speed of twenty-six thousand miles per hour. <– that’s the number in WORDS, now you write that NUMBER on your answer sheet!

Jan. 3 – Late Night Runs!

Did you know that they have gas stations with DOG PARKS?!

Hi! It’s Luka. I’ve been behind on dog-blogging because we’ve been doing so much driving! But, we just got to New Mexico and I’m having the time of my life in a dog park with my dad. How cool that gas stations have DOG PARKS!?

Anyways, I’m getting excited to almost be back home. Are you excited to see us when you come back from break?! (Hopefully).

Here’s today’s math question: Mom went to buy gas before taking us to the dog park. The gas cost $93.25. She also bought gas earlier for $134.67. How much money has she paid in all? If she had $250 in her pocket, is that enough? (Show your work!)

XO, Luka

Jan. 2 – On the Road Again

After one last snowy stretch and playtime outside, we headed on our way home. I’m a little bit sad because I really like my Nanna & Papa (that’s my human grandma and grandpa). But I’m also excited to get back to my backyard, my neighborhood, and my giant bed!

As we start driving, I keep thinking about all the fun things we did (and ate). We saw Christmas lights and fireworks on New Years Eve (which were really loud!) and everyone started yelling. . . was there anything exciting you saw (or ate) this break?

In today’s box, January 2, draw a picture of something from your break! (Here are some ideas. . . a toy, something you ate, fireworks from New Years, etc.!)

XO, Luka

Jan. 1 – New Year’s Snow!

It snowed this morning! I’ve seen snow a few times, but Luka hasn’t, so he was pretty suspicious of it. (I think he was nervous when Mom went outside that the white stuff would hurt her haha!)

Now I’m cozying up by the fire and getting ready for an exciting meal. Yesterday we tried “fondue” which is little pieces of steak and lobster (!!) dipped in butter or cheese. That was probably the best thing I’ve ever tasted! I don’t know what exciting tastes today will bring.

How about you?! How was your New Years Eve? (I almost made it to midnight. . . did you?!)

Here’s today’s writing prompt: Share about your New Years with us! Tell us what you did, where you went, what you ate, and how you celebrated.

Dec. 31 – New Years Eve!

WOOO! I have the zoomies because today is New Years Eve and that means me and my brother are getting special TREATS (at least that’s what I overheard mom and Nanna whispering about).

This has been such a great trip so far, and I can’t wait to see what kind of snacks we get later.

Here’s today’s math question: Styles and I get 2 treats each day (each), and we are here for 4 days. How many treats do we get in all?

Hint: Figure out how many treats one of us gets total and x 2! (Or, if you haven’t learned multiplication yet, you can do repeated addition!)

XO, Luka

Dec. 30 – Fuzzy Sweater Time!

Hi! It’s Luka. Sorry I’ve been taking so long to blog. . . we’ve been eating CHICKEN AND STEAK, lounging by the fire, and even got to see a Christmas light show from the trunk of my Papa’s big car.

Today we went on THREE walks and one of them was so cold that mom made us wear our fuzzy sweaters.

Here’s today’s math question: On Saturday it was 42 degrees, then on Sunday it dropped 10 degrees. What was the temperature on Sunday? On Monday (today!) the temperature was 8 degrees warmer than Sunday. What was the temperature on Monday?

PS: Show your work for both parts of the math problem!

XO, Luka

Dec. 29 – We Made It!

Wow. It’s been an adventure. Our mom drove a lot of hours and it felt like we would NEVER get there. Actually I thought that our new life might be in this van. . .

BUT we finally got to Illinois! (Kansas โ†’ Missouri โ†’ Illinois!!!)

Here’s a picture of the last hour of the trip where I just laid in the back with my dad while he napped.

Here’s today’s math question: If it takes 2,070 miles to get from San Diego to Chicago and we’ve driven 1,802 miles. . . how many do we have left?! (PS: Show your work!)

PPS: Click on the picture and zoom in to see my face!

Dec. 28 – Hi From Kansas!

Hi everyone! It’s Luka. Sorry for posting so late! It’s been such a busy day. We have been driving soooo many hours (California to Arizona โ†’ New Mexico โ†’ Texas โ†’ Oklahoma โ†’ Kansas), but we are almost there!

Look at this video at one of our last gas station stops. . . at the end I tripped my human brother! ๐Ÿ˜‚

Here’s today’s math question: We spent $103 on gas at our first fill-up, $98 at our second, and $110 at our third. How much money have we spent on gas in all?

XO, Luka

Dec. 27 – Greetings from New Mexico!

Hello friends! Our first night and full day of driving was a success. After I realized that we were going to be on the road for a longggggggg time, I finally started to relax.

I even got to be an arm rest for my mom when we drove across Arizona into New Mexico!

Here’s today’s writing prompt for you: If you could be a dog for a day, what would you do?

Dec. 26 – Hitting the road!

Ah! Today’s the day! We’re headed out on our adventure. At first, we both thought that we were going to be left behind. . . but then mom said COME ON IN!

This is probably the most exciting journey we’ve ever been on.

Question for you (to write in your recording sheet): Where have you traveled to and what did you do while you were there (it can be over break or any time in your life! And it can be one place, or many!)

Dec. 25 – Christmas is finally here!

Hi!!! It’s Luka. Guess what?! I got a new rope toy. It’s the best thing in the wholeeeee world. I’ve already played with it so many times.

Question for you: What’s the best toy/gift you’ve ever gotten? AND what’s the best present you ever made/gave?

In your December 25th box, draw a picture of the best thing you gave AND got. Bonus if you add color! Can’t wait to see the pictures!

PS: We leave TOMORROW for our road trip!

XO, Luka

Dec. 24 – Xmas Eve!

Hi everyone! It’s Styles. Sorry for writing to you so late – today is Christmas Eve, and it’s just been soooo busy!

I had a party at the dog park AND I got to meet Santa. I also got 234 treats!! I don’t think I could ask for anything better!

Today in your recording sheet. . . draw me a picture of the best Christmas ever! Do you meet Santa? Do you get lots of presents? Are friends and family there? Can’t wait to see your pictures!

Dec. 23 – Getting Ready!

Hi friends! It’s Luka, reporting live from bed where I just finished our latest dog blog. We are officially TWO DAYS away from Christmas, which is really exciting because I think I’m going to get a cool toy or two to chew on. Yay! I’m also really excited about our road trip. . . I’ve never been on one, but mom has started packing our things and making giant piles, so it all seems very exciting!

Today’s Question (for writing your own response on your recording sheet): What are you most excited about this holiday?

XO, Luka

Dec. 22 – Holiday Shopping

Hi! It’s Styles again. Today our mom left us to go holiday shopping! How rude! But, she did come back with some toys for us.

Here’s a math problem for you:

  • She bought Luka 3 toys that were $4 each.
  • She bought me 2 bags of treats that were $6 each.
  • She bought us both a sweater that was $10 each.

How much money did she spend in all?

*HINT: You can add all the amounts up to get the total dollars. If you know multiplication, you can use that too! (Don’t forget to show your work on your recording sheet!)

Dec. 21 – Foggy Mornings!

Hi! It’s Styles. I looooove going on walks, especially in the morning. There’s just so much to sniff!

Mom seems a little stressed about packing for our trip, but I’m not sure why. We just need food, water, medicine, and treats! What’s there to worry about?

Here’s a math problem for you:

  • On Thursday, me and Luka walked two times for 10 minutes each.
  • Friday we walked 3 times for 20 minutes each.
  • Saturday we walked this morning for 15 minutes.

How many minutes total have we walked?

*BONUS: How many hours and minutes have we walked?

๐Ÿพ woof, Styles

Dec. 20 – Lazy Friday

Hi friends! It’s Luka again. Well, I thought today I would get to sleep in, but mom woke us up early because Austin had to go to school. Ugh. Styles can sleep anywhere, but I just get too excited.

Here’s a math problem for you: Styles slept from 9PM-5AM last night. Then he was up from 5-5:45AM, and now he’s asleep 5:45AM-6AM.

How long has he been sleeping?

Write your answer on your recording sheet – and don’t forget to show your work! (PS: You can have a parent help you if you need!)

XO, Luka

Dec. 19 – It’s Too Early!

It’s super early this morning (like 4AM to be exact) and our mom is helping us get started on the Dog Blog. . . who knew computer stuff was so much work?

Here’s your first challenge: Can you find me in the doggy camera? [Click on the image to see it bigger!]

XO, Luka
