For Book Club, I’m always looking for good resources to help my students make connections to their reading. I came across this great source from ReadWorks, and I created two sets of questions to correspond and help with text-to-self and text-to-world connections!
The resource is called “Monster in the Barn” and with the two sets of questions, one set focuses on text-to-self connections. The other is a blend of self and world.
Since my Book Club students are slow learners, we went through the questions together. They answered individually, then we talked in a large group. This way I could see what they had picked up from the story and scaffold their responses.
